Independence Day Brownie Recipe

Thursday is Independence Day. If you are looking for something fresh, sweet, and patriotic to top off your 4th of July cookout, look no further.

Our brownie recipe is simple and uses ingredients you may already have in your fridge and pantry. Feel free to substitute your favorite home-made buttercream frosting for the store-bought icing. Or make it really simple, and use two boxes of brownie mix instead. (We won’t tell!)

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 30 mins
Total Time: 45 mins
Servings: 24

Ingredients:

  • 12 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 2 cups sliced strawberries
  • 2 (16-ounce) containers white frosting

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350° and grease a 9″x13″ pan lined with aluminum foil. Foil should extend up the sides of the pan to help lift your brownies out of the pan.
  2. Melt butter in a medium saucepan before whisking in sugar and cocoa powder.
  3. Cool butter mixture completely before you whisk in the eggs and vanilla extract.
  4. Stir in remaining dry ingredients: flour, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips and pour batter into prepared pan.
  6. Bake for about 22 to 25 minutes.
  7. Once brownies have completely cooled you will be able to lift them whole out of your pan and place them on a serving tray.
  8. Spread with a thin layer of frosting.
  9. Arrange blueberries in rows in top left corner. Place strawberry slices in 5 rows.
  10. Place remaining frosting in a large pastry bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe frosting between rows of strawberries.
  11. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
