5 Quick Tips to Modernize Your Home

Do you have an old house that needs updating? Maybe, you purchased a new home and want to make it fit your aesthetic. No matter what the reason, I am here to help!

Here are a few ways to make your home go from not to hot.

1. Get rid of your popcorn ceiling

Anyone who watches shows like the Property Brothers knows that popcorn ceilings must go. They are a thing of the past. There are several DIY videos on YouTube on how to remove it—Home Depot is just one company that has posted how-to videos on popcorn ceiling removal. You may want to hire someone for this if you aren’t very handy, like me. There is no shame in hiring a professional to get the job done right.

2. Update your walls

A quick and easy way to improve your home is to add color to your walls. And there are several options to make your home stand out—paint or add wallpaper, cover all four walls, or make an accent wall. All options will provide your home with a fresh new look. Plus, it is one of the cheaper home updates!

Stop by your local hardware store and pick out your favorite paint color. If you want to use wallpaper, take your time when picking it out. There is removable wallpaper for people in apartments or those who don’t want to deal with the hassle of standard wallpaper. Amazon is just one company that sells this, and it works!

3. Add a backsplash in your kitchen

For some people, the kitchen is the most important room in a house. It is where families spend a lot of time making meals together and talking about their days. That is why you may want to update your kitchen with a fun backsplash. There are hundreds of options to choose from. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. At least one will be perfect for you and your family.

4. Get new light fixtures

Modernize your house with new light fixtures. There are hundreds of styles nowadays, depending on what type of look you are going for. If you want a more modern look, sputnik chandeliers are in, and a wagon wheel chandelier is a great option if you want a farmhouse aesthetic. The options are endless.

5. Brighten up your room with decor

The last and most influential step, in my opinion, is to add decor. This will make your house feel more like home. You may want to add fun rugs, cute lamps, small succulents, accent tables, and photos throughout your house. Pinterest is a great place to go when you need some design inspiration. They have thousands of images that you can scroll through to get ideas. If you don’t have a Pinterest account, you can rely on home improvement shows to provide you with advice. Watch a few episodes of Fixer Upper, and you will feel like an interior designer.

A little goes a long way, so start slow and get to updating!
